Team Green admits to talks with Andretti
Team Green has confirmed that it has been in talks with current CART championship leader Michael Andretti about a prospective drive for next year in Champ Cars and at the Indianapolis 500
The 1991 CART champion had said that he may quit Champ Cars for its rival series, the Indy Racing League, in order to compete at Indy again. But sources suggest that a deal has already been done to run a third car alongside current Team Green drivers Dario Franchitti and Paul Tracy.
"We admit we've had talks with Michael Andretti," said Kim Green, General Manager and brother of team boss Barry. "If Team Green became a three-car team it would be a be a big undertaking, but I believe we have the key personnel in-house that would make that transition reasonably easy. We have good people here."
In order to cover the extra work of running a third car, the personnel from the Team Green Indy Lights operation may be used. Green also admitted that Motorola had been approached as a sponsor for the extra car.
Green said the team had for some time been considering an attack on the hallowed Indy 500 similar to that made by the Ganassi Racing team, which won the event this year with driver Juan Pablo Montoya.
"We've looked at it a couple of times over the past couple of years," he said.
