Arie Luyendyk Jr to test Dale Coyne's IndyCar

Arie Luyendyk Jr

Arie Luyendyk Jr will make his IndyCar return in testing with Dale Coyne Racing at Sebring on Monday.

Luyendyk made his only IndyCar start in a car entered by his two-time Indianapolis 500 winning father Arie Sr at Indianapolis in 2006, having failed to qualify for the same race with the CURB/Agajanian/Beck team a year earlier.

He had more success during his long career in Indy Lights, where he finished second, third and fourth in the championship at various times between 2002 and '10.

Dale Coyne Racing has no contracted driver available to participate in the test, with Justin Wilson still recovering from injuries sustained in a crash at Fontana last month, and no full-time occupant for its second car.

"Thrilled to be testing with Dale Coyne Racing this Monday at Sebring," Luyendyk wrote on Twitter. "Hope my IndyCar fans are excited as I am!"

The 32-year-old is one of six drivers scheduled to participate in the Honda manufacturer test day, with Andretti expected to run James Hinchcliffe, Ryan Hunter-Reay and Carlos Munoz, Rahal Letterman Lanigan running Graham Rahal, and Schmidt Peterson Motorsports being represented by Simon Pagenaud.

Pagenaud will continue on alone for a second day of testing on Tuesday.
