James Calado, Jaime Alguersuari test DTM Mercedes

James Calado Force India F1 2013

James Calado and Jaime Alguersuari have tested DTM machinery for Mercedes at Estoril this week.

AUTOSPORT understands that Force India Formula 1 reserve driver Calado and Alguersuari, who started 46 grands prix for Toro Rosso from 2009-11, were among a host of young drivers to try out C-coupe machinery.

Also driving were Blancpain Endurance Series champion Maximiliam Buhk, his Spa 24 Hours-winning co-driver Maxi Gotz, Formula 3 European Championship runner-up Felix Rosenqvist and Formula Renault 3.5 race winner Nigel Melker.

Mercedes would not confirm the identities of any of the drivers present, or that the test had taken place.

The German manufacturer ran six cars during the 2013 season, but is still evaluating increasing its number to eight for next year.
