MotoGP championship leader Marc Marquez's younger brother Alex claimed his maiden grand prix victory in a wild Moto3 race at Motegi on Sunday morning.
The 17-year-old Spaniard is contesting his first full season at world championship level after a partial Moto3 campaign in 2012 alongside victory in his domestic series.
Alex Marquez, who rides for the Monlau team that steered his brother through the feeder series, beat Maverick Vinales by just 0.027 seconds in a thrilling finish at Motegi as he claimed his maiden triumph.
The victory came in Alex's 27th grand prix start, whereas Marc needed 34 125cc world championship appearances before he broke his duck at Mugello in 2010 and then began to dominate.
With title contenders Luis Salom and Alex Rins both involved in crashes, Moto3 is set for a three-way title decider at Valencia in a fortnight.
Salom is just two points ahead of Vinales and five clear of Rins with 25 available.
