Motegi MotoGP: more delays on Saturday as rain hits

Andrea Dovizioso

Bad weather continued to prevent MotoGP's attempts to get the Japanese Grand Prix weekend underway on Saturday morning as torrential rain forced the cancellation of the practice sessions.

Friday's running had all been lost because the level of fog prevented the medical helicopter from landing at the circuit.

The helicopter was able to reach the track ready for the scheduled start of Saturday's practice sessions, but the downpours and more fog meant the grand prix classes' running was first delayed, then cancelled altogether.

Organisers remain optimistic that Saturday afternoon's qualifying sessions can go ahead with practice running beforehand.

Race direction said on Friday that practice, qualifying and the races could all be squeezed into Sunday if necessary.
