Button wants to leave Williams in style

Jenson Button has admitted it will be a wrench to leave Williams, even though he is heading for ex-champions Benetton next year

Button said he will be working even harder to quit the team is style before leaping the wall to join their hottest rivals this season.

The 20-year-old was finally confirmed last week as teammate to Giancarlo Fisichella, while his place at Williams will be taken by soon-to-be-confirmed Colombian Juan Pablo Montoya.

He is on a two-year loan and supposed to be returning to Williams in 2003 as part of a five-year deal with team boss Frank Williams.

"It is upsetting to be leaving Williams because I have enjoyed my time here," he said at the Belgian Grand Prix. "But there are a whole number of reasons why I won't be at the team next year.I know I have done the best job I could have for my first year. I have no problems with that.

"I am sure I will be able to do a very good job next year," he added, "but I am not even thinking about that at the moment. I won't until the winter."

Button said he was relieved the long-rumoured move to Benetton has finally been announced.

"I will not be taking it easy," he said. "Just the reverse really - I intend to work harder than ever for the remaining races.

"I am getting more and more confident with each race, and I want to be competitive for the rest of the season, just as I have been over the last few races."
