Fontana IndyCar: Justin Wilson suffers fractured pelvis in crash

Indy shunt - Wilson

Justin Wilson suffered a fractured pelvis in a mid-race accident during Saturday night's IndyCar season finale at Fontana.

The Briton lost control on a seam on lap 110, sending his Dale Coyne car spinning into the middle of the track where he was T-boned by Tristan Vautier, who had no opportunity to avoid him.

Several other cars were caught up in the crash, although Wilson was the only driver to sustain any injuries.

He was extracted from his car by the medical team and taken to a nearby hospital, where a medical evaluation revealed that Wilson suffered non-operable pelvic fractures and a small pulmonary contusion.

He will be kept in hospital overnight for observation.

According to a Tweet from Wilson's younger brother Stefan, the impact of the crash was recorded at 62 lateral Gs.
