Andretti to stay in CART
Michael Andretti is set to stay in Champ Cars for 2001, according to Autosport's sister publication Motoring News.
The news comes in the wake of a spate of rumours that the 1991 CART Champion was to quit the series for its rival, the Indy Racing League.
Andretti had said he was interested in IRL and wanted to race again in the Indy 500, but eponymous team owner Gerald Forsythe has revealed the Newman-Haas driver has already signed for another team within Champ Cars.
"After hearing Michael was considering going to IRL," said Forsythe, "I told Carl (Haas) I was interested in keeping Michael in CART. I asked him if it was alright if I talked to Michael, but I have since learned that Michael has signed with another team in CART."
Andretti could have renewed his contract with Newman-Haas but reportedly turned down an estimated offer worth US$ 7 million. Rumours suggest Andretti's most likely birth will be with Team Green, who are tipped to run a third car as part of a satellite team, separate to the existing two-car race team.
