Gronholm takes command of Rally Finland

Peugeot's Marcus Gronholm is tightening his grip on the Rally Finland, finishing the second leg of the competition 56 seconds ahead of closest rival Harri Rovanpera in the Toyota

At the start of Leg Two on Saturday morning, it looked as though Gronholm would be put under severe pressure from Subaru driver Richard Burns, but the Englishman spectacularly crashed out of the rally when he rolled his car shortly after finishing the first of the day's stages (see separate story).

This gave Gronholm some breathing space and so the Finn went on to be quickest through four of Saturday's eight stages.

"We had no real problems," said Gronholm. "Towards the end of the day I found the fighting feeling again. Everything looks good for tomorrow. The gap we have should be OK - I just have to look after the car."

Also looking forward to Sunday's final five stages is Harri Rovanpera. "If I have no dramas and can run at the same pace as today, I think I should be OK for second place," he said.

Someone who doesn't seem quite as content is Scotland's Colin McRae, currently running third in the Ford.

"I'm only 10 seconds behind Rovanpera," said McRae, "but sometimes it feels like 10 minutes. I just can't seem to close the gap.

"I need to make a big effort on the first stage on Sunday morning. Often your performance on the first stage of the day sets the pattern for the day. I need to pressure Harri into a mistake, but in doing so, I might make one myself."

Remember, you can see the Rally Finland come to climax on Sunday by tuning into our live timings. The first cars are due to head through the first of Sunday's stages at around 06:29BST, with the final stage kicking off at 11:00BST. Click HERE for the latest results live from Finland.
