Rally Finland SS6-9
Marcus Gronholm has dominated the first day of Rally Finland, the Peugeot driver taking five stage wins on the trot on Friday morning. But the Finn has not had it all his own way, as Subaru's Richard Burns begins to exert pressure of his own, taking three stage wins on Friday afternoon
"I've been going absolutely flat out and trying my hardest," said the Englishman. "I'm not going mad, but I'm putting a lot of trust in my pace notes.
"The tyres have been very good, especially in damp sections under the trees," continued Burns, who is about six seconds behind the leading Peugeot, "but I'm just going at my own pace."
Harri Rovanpera continues to hold third place in the Toyota, but Scotland's Colin McRae has moved up one place after the halfway point, and is currently lying in fourth, about 34 seconds behind leader Gronholm.
Despite being the man to beat on Friday, Gronholm is less than happy with his pace. "I haven't really found a good rhythm all day," he said. "We've got no tactics about starting positions tomorrow (Saturday) as we are pretty sure it will rain. Then there is no disadvantage in running first on the road."
