AmD boss Shaun Hollamby to race VW Golf in Brands BTCC finale

Shaun Hollamby

AmD Tuning boss Shaun Hollamby will return to British Touring Car Championship action at the Brands Hatch season finale next month.

Hollamby's team has fielded both Volkswagen Golf and Honda Civic machinery this year, both in the Jack Sears Trophy for S2000 machinery, with BTCC veteran James Kaye at the wheel.

Financial constraints have meant that bringing the Civic to this weekend's Silverstone round is impossible.

But Hollamby, who has made only sporadic appearances behind the wheel since 2010, will race the Golf at Brands Hatch.

"We'd love to have been able to run the Civic this weekend with James, but unfortunately the budget just isn't there to run it," Hollamby told AUTOSPORT.

"We do have the budget to run the Golf, which has had a rebuild since mid-season, and if anyone was to do the final race in the car, it was going to be me.

"I love racing in the BTCC but I can't afford a full season, so one-offs are all I can really manage.

"But I'm going to Brands aiming to get some Jack Sears Trophy wins. It would be a great send-off for the car and I've been very competitive with [Trophy winner] Lea Wood in the past, so I'd expect to fight with him again."

Hollamby's best BTCC finishes are a pair of 13th places, the most recent of them coming at Croft in 2011.
