Bamboo to run new Chevrolets in WTCC in 2014

Bamboo to run new Chevrolets in WTCCBamboo Engineering will run two new-specification Chevrolets in the 2014 World Touring Car Championship.

The team has sold its GP3 Series operation to GP2 championship leader Russian Time and will focus on touring cars next season.

Bamboo has competed in the WTCC since 2010 and currently runs Alex MacDowall and James Nash, who is fourth in the standings heading into the final two meetings.

Nash is also leading the Yokohama Trophy standings.

Richard Coleman's squad is the first customer confirmed for RML's new-rules Chevrolets. AUTOSPORT revealed earlier this month that the ex-factory team was building Chevrolets to the new rules.

"The WTCC is going through a big change for 2014 with the new regulations and the competition is increasing with the arrival of Citroen," said Coleman.

"We have decided not to continue in the GP3 series for next season.

"We can proud of our record there with fastest laps, podiums and a win bringing the fight to established teams."

Bamboo won the second Nurburgring GP3 race with Melville McKee and is sixth in the teams' standings at present.

It also runs 2010 McLaren AUTOSPORT BRDC Award winner Lewis Williamson and Carmen Jorda.
