Sergio Campana will make his GP2 debut with Trident in his home event at Monza this weekend.
The 2011 Italian Formula 3 champion is currently challenging for the Auto GP title.
"To be at Monza during the Italian GP weekend has been one of my long-time goals," said 27-year-old Campana.
"This season, the dream finally came true and as soon as this chance with Trident Racing emerged, I seized it in a few days.
"Everything will be new to me because I only turned some laps in an old GP2 car without the Pirelli tires.
"I know that it will be hard to familiarise with this new world in just a weekend. I know the track very well and that will definitely be an advantage."
Campana joins Nathanael Berthon in the Trident line-up.
Kevin Ceccon started the season in the team's second car, before being replaced by Ricardo Teixeira for the last two events.
