European F3 driver Sven Muller leaves Ma-Con for Van Amersfoort

Formula 3 European Championship racer Sven Muller will complete the season with Van Amersfoort Racing after quitting the Ma-Con squad.

The 21-year-old German, who lies 10th in the standings, joins VAR in place of Mans Grenhagen, who was forced to call a halt to his season due to a budget shortfall.

Muller gets his first taste of VAR's Dallara-Volkswagen in a two-day private test at Lausitz on Monday and Tuesday, where he is joining new team-mate Dennis van de Laar.

Team principal Frits van Amersfoort said: "It's very good news for us and I'm very happy about it.

"I'm not a fan of drivers leaving teams to switch to another, especially as Otto [Schwadtke, Ma-Con boss] is a very good colleague, but in this case Sven came to us.

"For sure Sven can help Dennis as it will be two times as much data. I hope the complete team will benefit from this."

AUTOSPORT understands that Ma-Con is yet to find a replacement for Muller alongside Andre Rudersdorf. Although the next round is not until September 27-29 at Zandvoort, there is a two-day official test at Hockenheim next week.
