AJ Allmendinger will return to the NASCAR Sprint Cup full-time in 2014 having sealed a deal with JTG Daugherty.
The former Penske driver's career was interrupted last summer when he was suspended for failing a drug test.
He subsequently returned in a part-time deal with Phoenix, while Penske brought him back into the fold for occasional IndyCar and Nationwide Series outings.
Allmendinger then added five races with JTG Daugherty to his schedule when the struggling team decided to stand 2000 Cup champion Bobby Labonte down for several rounds.
As the deal was announced, Allmendinger said the team atmosphere was one of the main attractions.
"To have the opportunity to come back full-time with everything that happened, I know how very lucky I am," he said.
"There are a lot of things about the team I like as well.
"It is small and a fun atmosphere whether it is inside the hauler or goofing around after hours playing golf. It is the type of atmosphere and chemistry you need in this sport."
