Interlagos WEC: Toyota beats Audi in Brazil Friday practice
Toyota emerged fastest from the opening two sessions of free practice at Interlagos for round four of the World Endurance Championship
Anthony Davidson ended up with the fastest time of the two 90-minute sessions after setting a 1m21.881s in the solo Toyota TS030 HYBRID during the opening period on Friday.
That was just two hundredths of a second quicker than Tom Kristensen's session-topping best in practice two at the wheel of the championship-leading Audi R18 e-tron quattro.
Andre Lotterer was less than two tenths behind in the second Audi with a time also set in the second session.
Davidson, who is sharing the Toyota with Stephane Sarrazin and Sebastien Buemi, said: "It makes a nice change this year to end up on top. This is the first time this season we have gone head to head with Audi with our high-downforce aero package and the car feels great."
The LMP2 class was led by the G-Drive/Delta-ADR squad, with Mike Conway setting the fastest time of the day in FP2 in his ORECA-Nissan 03 with a 1m27.642s.
That put him just ahead of the two OAK Racing Morgan-Nissan LMP2s: Bertrand Baguette ended up second in FP2 on a 1m28.014s, while Olivier Pla had been fastest in class in FP1 on a 1m28.136s.
Aston Martin Racing headed the GTE Pro times in both sessions with its #97 Vantage GTE, Darren Turner setting the pace in the opening period and Stefan Mucke in the second.
The best of AMR's GTE Am entries, the Danish-crewed #95 Vantage, was also quickest in both sessions.
