Coulthard pips Schumacher in warm-up

David Coulthard pipped pole-sitter Michael Schumacher's Ferrari to the fastest time in this morning's Hungarian Grand Prix warm-up.

The McLaren man's 1m19.261s lap was 0.120s quicker than the German's best effort, backing up the Scot's claims that race form would be a completely different story to qualifying. In yesterday afternoon's qualifying session, Schumacher was 0.372s faster than fellow front row starter Coulthard.

Rubens Barrichello made it a Ferrari two-three, but traffic on Mika Hakkinen's flying lap meant he could only put the second McLaren fifth, behind Ralf Schumacher's impressive Williams.

Heinz-Harald Frentzen's Jordan took sixth, with the Saubers the surprise of the session in seventh and eighth - Pedro Diniz edging team leader Mika Salo.

Jacques Villeneuve's BAR and Jenson Button's Williams completed a top 10 covered by just over two seconds.

Eddie Irvine's Jaguar suffered an apparent gearbox problem, while Giancarlo Fisichella's Benetton and Nick Heidfeld's Prost both suffered gravelly moments in the 30-minute session.

Air temperature for the warm-up was 26 degrees celsius, with the track temperature nudging 37 degrees. Air temperature for the race could reach 30 degrees, making tyre wear and engine cooling potential problems on the tight, twisting Hungaroring.
