Mike Bushell gets nod for British Touring Car debut with IP Tech

Renault Clio Cup frontrunner Mike Bushell will make his British Touring Car Championship debut at Knockhill this weekend for IP Tech Race Engineering

Renault Clio Cup frontrunner Mike Bushell will make his British Touring Car Championship debut at Knockhill this weekend for IP Tech Race Engineering.

Bushell tested the team's lone NGTC Chevrolet Cruze at Snetterton this week and is not in Clio action at Knockhill as the series does not take its usual BTCC support slot in Scotland.

Team owner Andy Neate, who gave the car its series debut at the Norfolk circuit earlier this month, has stood back from driving duties for Knockhill to allow Bushell to race.

Neate said: "Mike's already proven he's quick in the BTCC feeder Clio series and he impressed me during his time on track at Snetterton.

"Following his test and a number of conversations with him, I wanted to give him an opportunity at the right time in his career - something I would have cut my arm off for in years gone by.

"I'm confident he'll be holding his own out there. But primarily it's a priceless chance for him to experience the other side of the event; the working with a bigger team than he's been used to and taking on board all the feedback he'll be getting."

"It's going to test him but I'm sure he'll step up to the plate."

Bushell is the third driver to make his series debut at Knockhill, Scottish Legends racer Kieren Gallagher and Mini Cooper competitor Aiden Moffat also joining the entry list in the past 10 days.
