Michael Schumacher will return to the Race of Champions in December

Michael Schumacher will return to the Race of Champions in December despite retiring from Formula 1 at the end of last season.

Schumacher and Team Germany partner Sebastian Vettel have won the RoC's Nations' Cup contest for the past six straight years.

Last year the pair won every head-to-head in which they competed, defeating Team France's Romain Grosjean and Sebastien Ogier in the final.

"I am sorry to say but of course we want to win it again," Schumacher, the first driver to be confirmed for this year's event, said.

"The fact that it will be the seventh title this year makes it even more interesting, at least for me. So be prepared for a hot Team Germany in the ROC Nations' Cup.

"This year I am still spending a lot of time on four wheels, but obviously not in F1.

"I still do a lot of karting as this is my 'old' love, and I have been driving the Mercedes AMG SLS GT3 which was a really good experience.

"It is obviously different when you are racing every other weekend but I am still quite used to it."

The RoC stays in Thailand for a second straight year, and will take place in Bangkok's Rajamangala Stadium on December 14-15.

Schumacher is still chasing victory in the RoC's individual event, which was won by Romain Grosjean last year.

"I have always enjoyed the Race Of Champions, being together with the other drivers in a relaxed atmosphere," Schumacher added, "and in the end this is why I have always returned."
