IndyCar will test on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course in the coming weeks ahead of the track's possible addition to the 2014 calendar.
Details are still being finalised, however sources confirmed that the test is likely to take place in early September with the aim of gathering data about the circuit.
It is expected that cars will run in both the clockwise direction previously used by Formula 1 (pictured), and the anti-clockwise configuration being used in MotoGP this weekend.
No information has been released regarding which team or teams will take part, nor how the relevant teams will be selected.
Rumours regarding the potential for an IndyCar race on the IMS road course have been long-standing, but the issue gained additional steam when consultancy group BCG released a report in March recommended that the series add the circuit to its schedule.
