World Endurance Championship LMP2 frontrunner Alex Brundle will race a GT car for the first time in a major international event at the Spa 24 Hours later this month.
The Briton, who finished second in LMP2 at the Le Mans 24 Hours last month with OAK Racing, will race a Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG for Fortec Motorsport in the centre piece of the Blancpain Endurance Series on July 27/28.
Brundle, whose only previous outing in a GT car came in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo one-make series in 2010, said: "It has been a bit of project of mine to do Spa.
"I went to the Silverstone Blancpain round, met with Fortec and it went from there.
"With so many manufacturer GT3 programmes, I want to be able to say that I've done well in one of the 24-hour races.
"You can race a GT3 professionally just about every weekend with all the different series."
Brundle has taken the final seat in the works-blessed Mercedes alongside former FIA GT2 Champion Karl Wendlinger and Fortec Formula Renault 3.5 regular Oli Webb.
Fortec's Trevor Foster, who is running the team's new GT squad, said: "We wanted to complete an all-pro line-up and Alex has got good long-distance experience.
"With this line-up we will be able to give it a good go and hopefully get a decent result."
The British team is contesting its second Blancpain event at Spa after making its debut at Silverstone in June.
It is aiming to contest the Nurburgring finale in September and is also looking at the VLN on the Nurburgring-Nordschleife and GT Open races to complement its one-car British GT Championship assault.
