2001 calendar announced

Interim CART CEO Bobby Rahal has finally announced the calendar for the 2001 CART FedEx World Series.

As expected the new events at Rockingham in England and the Lausitzring in Germany feature among the 22-race series dates, as do two further additions at Monterrey in Mexico and Dallas, Texas.

The two races that have gone from the schedule are the traditional season-opener at Miami Homestead, and the Gateway race at St Louis. The season will also now start in early February, in Brazil.

"The 2001 FedEx Championship Series schedule reaches out to more fans in more markets than at any time in the history of CART," said Rahal,

"At the core of our series are the 14 races we run here in the United States and, with the addition of the Dallas area, we visit many of the country's leading cities,

"Couple that with races we run in Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Australia, Japan, Germany and England and you have a schedule that serves our fans, teams, sponsors and manufacturers very well."

The weekend of May 27 has been kept free should the CART teams wish to compete in the Indianpolis 500, as Team Ganassi did this year.
