Race-winning Auto GP team Virtuosi Racing has announced a new working relationship with former Formula Renault 3.5 champion Comtec Racing.
The arrangement between the teams, which are neighbours in Norfolk, is primarily a driver development programme.
Virtuosi Racing's Andy Roche told AUTOSPORT: "Our factories are based next door to each other, and I have known the people at Comtec for a long time.
"The main focus of the relationship will be this winter. Auto GP is relatively free from testing restrictions, whereas they are limited [in FR3.5], and we have already had drivers express interest in running with us."
Comtec team owner Pierre Moncheur believes the similarities between Auto GP and FR3.5 make the deal potentially valuable.
"Both use similar Zytek engines, carry high levels of downforce and both have mandatory pitstops," he said.
"Drivers stepping up from AutoGP into Formula Renault 3.5 will already have the necessary tools and experience to make an immediate impact. An alliance in driver development with Virtuosi Racing can only serve to strengthen both our positions."
