Assen MotoGP: Injured Jorge Lorenzo cleared to ride in warm-up

Jorge Lorenzo MotoGP 2013Jorge Lorenzo has been cleared to ride in the Dutch Grand Prix warm-up at Assen following his collarbone surgery in the early hours of Friday morning.

The MotoGP world champion broke his left collarbone in three places in a massive crash in practice on Thursday afternoon, then flew to Barcelona to have the injury fixed with a titanium plate and eight screws.

He immediately returned to Assen with a view to taking part in the race, and underwent a medical examination early on Saturday morning.

Lorenzo has now been given permission to ride in the warm-up at 9.40am local time.

His condition will be assessed again after the 25-minute session to decide if he can take part in the race.

Though he missed qualifying, Lorenzo secured 12th on the grid as his Thursday morning practice time was sufficient to ensure a Q2 place.

He is currently seven points behind leader Dani Pedrosa in the championship.
