Assen MotoGP: Ivan Silva to stand in for injured Hiroshi Aoyama

Ivan SilvaIvan Silva will return to MotoGP at this weekend's Dutch TT to stand in for the injured Hiroshi Aoyama at the Avintia squad.

Silva stayed on with the Avintia team as a test rider this year after losing his race seat, but will return for Assen after Aoyama sustained damage to his left hand - including the loss of a part of a finger - in a Barcelona practice crash.

"I am thrilled to return to the world championship with Avintia Blusens," says Silva, who returned to Spanish domestic racing this year.

"I will have to get used to riding the CRT again but I am delighted to be back here and looking forward to seeing how the bike has evolved."

Spanish rider Javier del Amoro was given a short-notice call-up to replace Aoyama during the Catalunya Grand Prix weekend following the crash, and finished 15th in the race.
