Euro RX Hell: Liam Doran takes victory in final, Solberg 13th

British driver Liam Doran came back from what he described as a "rookie mistake" to win the fifth round of the FIA European Rallycross Championship at Hell in Norway

Doran forgot to take the jokerlap in his first heat race of the day, putting him on the back foot for the weekend ahead.

However, a strong set of heat times put the Citroen DS3 driver back into a qualifying position for the back row of semi-final two.

An amazing start in the semi-final propelled him to the win, placing him on the front row of the grid for the final, alongside semi-final one winner (and team-mate) Andreas Bakkerud.

With another great start from the front of the grid in the final, Doran headed straight for the jokerlap at the first opportunity, and spent the rest of the race picking off those ahead when they took theirs, to become the second double event winner of the season.

"I really didn't want to come second today," said Doran. "We have had very good speed all weekend and it was only my own stupid mistake that put us down the order.

"I think we have been the fastest car for the last three events now, it's great to finally get the win."

While Doran's final went to plan, Bakkerud's didn't, his DS3 picking up a puncture on the second lap, ruling him out of an almost certain podium position.

Reigning champion Timur Timerzyanov finished second, ahead of Frenchman Davy Jeanney, who passed Bakkerud on lap two to lead the race until he took the joker lap on six.

Petter Solberg had a near perfect event on Saturday, and led overnight, only for things to turn upside down for him on Sunday.

A clash with Doran in heat three was followed by suspension failure, before steering problems in heat four placed him in 13th overall, missing out by just one position on a semi-final place.
