M-Sport and Peugeot's R5 cars will go head-to-head for the first time on this month's Ypres Rally.
Because neither the Fiesta R5 or the 208 T16 are homologated yet, neither car will run competitively, but they will run sequentially through the Belgian stages, offering the first insight into which is the quicker of the two in the all-new category.
M-Sport's Fiesta R5 was launched in Britain last night and is expected to be homologated at the start of next month. The 208, however, will not be homologated until the end of the season.
M-Sport's managing director Malcolm Wilson admitted he was relishing the challenge of the next round of the European Rally Championship.
"Obviously it's going to give us a very good insight into where the cars are at," said Wilson.
"It's a shame we can't compete, the event finishes on June 30, so it's just a day too early for us. But, to be honest, we're very confident in what we've got here with the R5."
