Ben Spies has withdrawn from the Mugello MotoGP weekend as his persistent shoulder problems proved too severe in practice.
The American has struggled for fitness since the Phillip Island crash that ended his Yamaha stint last year.
His damaged shoulder hampered his early races with Pramac Ducati this season, and he sat out Jerez and Le Mans in the hope of making a full recovery.
But it was clear during Friday practice in Italy that the situation was still too bad, and Spies has now pulled out of the meeting to seek further treatment.
