Rally legend Carlos Sainz will make his rallycross debut at this weekend's X Games in Barcelona.
The 51-year-old Spaniard, who won the World Rally crown in 1990 and '92, will contest the event at the city's Olympic Stadium in a Marklund Motorsports Volkswagen Polo supercar.
"I tested the car at Montalegre in Portugal after the last race of the European Rallycross Championship," Sainz said.
"We talked about making changes but I hadn't decided to race at that stage. Now, everything is on and I will test it again to achieve a set-up of my liking."
Sainz, who has been helping the team improve the performance of the Polo recently as part of his development role with VW, is set to drive the car again on a track layout similar to the one that will be used in Barcelona, later this week.
His participation adds to a line-up that already includes X Games legends Travis Pastrana, Ken Block and Brian Deegan, Dakar winner Nani Roma and Britain's Liam Doran, who will give the rallycross version of the Mini WRC its competitive debut.
