IndyCar legend AJ Foyt was expected to be released from hospital on Wednesday after undergoing successful back surgery in Houston on Tuesday.
The 78-year-old underwent a laminectomy procedure in the lumbar region of his spine in an effort to relieve sciatic nerve pain.
The procedure had originally been scheduled for Wednesday, however Foyt requested that it be brought forward to allow more time to recover.
He is expected to make a full recovery, and plans to attend next month's Indianapolis 500.
Takuma Sato gave AJ Foyt Enterprises its first IndyCar win in more than a decade with his victory at Long Beach on Sunday.
