Kris Meeke is hoping his test role with Peugeot will lead to an opportunity to drive its 208 T16 competitively in the second half of the season.
The Northern Irishman, who won his 2009 Intercontinental Rally Challenge title with Peugeot Sport, has been working with Craig Breen on the test and development of the 208.
Peugeot has confirmed Meeke is a strong contender for driving the car once it breaks competitive cover.
"I'm up for doing any rallies," Meeke said. "I just want to get back to competition.
"There's nothing concrete about doing an event, but it's sure that Peugeot need to be doing rallies and putting the car in the [competitive] environment and that's what they have traditionally done. The test went very well."
Breen is competing in this year's European Rally Championship with the French firm.
Meeke has not had a full-time drive since he lost his World Rally Championship seat when Mini trimmed its works programme at the end of 2011.
