Donington Park BTCC: Colin Turkington gives new BMW first win
Colin Turkington took his first victory since returning to the British Touring Car Championship by winning the reversed-grid race at Donington Park
The result was also the maiden win for WSR's new NGTC BMW.
Turkington jumped poleman Tom Onslow-Cole's Team Hard VW Passat and drove away from the field.
The 2009 champion's soft tyres started to go off in the closing stages, but the lead he had built and the battling behind meant he stayed out of reach.
Onslow-Cole, on the slower but more durable normal tyre, proved an obstacle for several cars in the early stages.
Aron Smith's Motorbase Ford and Sam Tordoff's MG made it by next and Tordoff then took second on lap four of 16.
But the MG was working its soft tyres hard and Tordoff continued to fall away from the leading BMW.
Gordon Shedden became the next threat, starting from row four on the soft tyres.
He jumped Honda team-mate Matt Neal when the triple champion got held up behind Onslow-Cole, then swiftly passed the VW.
He soon followed Adam Morgan's Ciceley Racing Toyota Avensis past Aron Smith, then moved into third with four laps to go.
The reigning champion rapidly closed on Tordoff and took second when the MG ran wide at McLeans on the final lap.
Neal, who had also overcome Morgan, followed Shedden through to secure a Honda Civic two-three.
Tordoff held on for fourth from Morgan, while Onslow-Cole repassed Smith in the closing stages to finish sixth in just the second meeting for the Passat.
Jason Plato's MG6 came home eighth, after being one of several cars forced to take avoiding action when Dave Newsham's Speedworks Toyota spun down the Craner Curves.
Race two winner Andrew Jordan pitted to clear grass from the front on his Eurotech Civic after an early excursion, but charged back to 13th and set fastest lap.
After Lea Wood, Liam Griffin and James Kaye all hit trouble, Joe Girling took the Jack Sears Trophy as the sole S2000 finisher in his Chevrolet Cruze.
