BTCC to remain on ITV until at least end of 2017

British Touring Car Championship 2012The British Touring Car Championship will remain on ITV until at least the end of 2017 following a new three-year agreement with the broadcaster.

ITV has screened the series since 2002 and in recent years has delivered live coverage throughout racedays on its ITV4 channel.

This year coverage will be broadcast live for seven hours per event on ITV4, ITV4 HD and online via the network's website.

Highlights will then be screened on ITV4, ITV4 HD, ITV, ITV HD and online.

BTCC boss Alan Gow said: "It's a major bonus for the BTCC. ITV have been a great supporter of the series in previous years and this just underlines that.

"We had something like 230 hours of live TV on mainstream TV and something like that gives a us a rock-solid foundation on which to build the championship even further."

Steve Rider, who will continue to anchor ITV's coverage alongside Louise Goodman, added: "For ITV to make that commitment is really something. It means we can look at the next three years with confidence and think about expanding.

"If we get the BTCC more mainstream, perhaps on ITV1, we'll all benefit."
