Rally Mexico: Ken Block in 'best ever' World Rally form

Ken BlockKen Block's team boss believes the American is delivering his best ever World Rally Championship performance on what could be his sole appearance of 2013.

Despite not competing at the sport's highest level since August last year, Block moved into the top 10 on Friday's opening stage and stayed there ever since to start leg two in seventh spot.

Hoonigan Racing Division team manager Derek Dauncey admitted he had not anticipated such a strong showing from Block.

"Without a doubt, yesterday was Ken's best day in the WRC," he said. "He halved the time gap which we had been expecting against the guys he's fighting with.

"To be doing this when he hasn't even sat in that Fiesta since Finland last year is very impressive."

Dauncey believes Block's other motoring activities have helped keep him sharp between WRC outings.

"We did a test for the 100 Acre Wood Rally," said Dauncey, "then we went down to Australia for some demonstration driving and then we came here.

"OK, it's not the same as being in the car all the time competing, but it's time in a car and driving that car precisely."

Block's best WRC finish so far is eighth in France in 2011.
