Live TV coverage secured for ERC Rally Azores

ERC 2013April's Rally Azores will be the first round of the new European Rally Championship to feature extended live television coverage, with four stages being shown on Eurosport.

Live coverage is a key part of the planned development of the ERC, as it was with the former series, the Intercontinental Rally Challenge.

Eurosport will broadcast live from selected ERC rounds for this season.

In preparation for the live coverage, Eurosport official Gilbert Roy and ERC co-ordinator Jean-Pierre Nicolas have been on the Atlantic island of Sao Miguel this week driving the stages to confirm camera points and suitable helicopter landing sites.

Roy said: "Working in conjunction with Francisco Coelho and his event organising team, we selected the Sete Cidades and Tronqueira stages for live broadcasting because of the spectacular countryside they pass through and the stunning images this will create.

"Sao Miguel's scenery is quite simply incredible and truly spectacular, while Sete Cidades is the most beautiful place I've encountered in rallying.

"Our visit to the island this week has been a great success in terms of our final planning and now we cannot wait to transmit what will be truly amazing pictures around the world in April."

The fourth round of the ERC runs from April 25-27.
