Rebellion names Heidfeld and Jani for its ALMS line-up

Neel Jani Former grand prix driver Nick Heidfeld and team regular Neel Jani will spearhead Rebellion Racing's attack on the American Le Mans Series.

Heidfeld, who raced for the Anglo-Swiss team in three rounds of the World Endurance Championship last year, and Jani will drive the team's Lola-Toyota B12/60 LMP1 prototype in all rounds of the championship for which the car is entered.

Rebellion team manager Bart Hayden said: "Neel expressed an interest in racing in America. He feels he has showcased his talents in the WEC and now wants to do the same in the USA.

"Neel and Nick are compatible in terms of physical size. They work well with each other and with James Robinson, who will engineer the car in America."

Rebellion has has firmed up its participation in the opening three ALMS rounds at Sebring, Long Beach and Laguna Seca, but has yet to commit to taking part in every US event around its continued WEC assault.

Heidfeld and Jani will also contest the first three WEC rounds up to and including the Le Mans 24 Hours, sharing with Nicolas Prost.

Rebellion's second WEC entry will be driven in the first three events by team regular Andrea Belicchi, CongFu 'Frankie' Cheng, who drove for the team at last year's Shanghai WEC round, and new signing Mathias Beche.

Belicchi, Prost and Beche are expected to share Rebellion's single-car entry in the remainder of the WEC.
