Ludwig admits Opel have the upper hand

Klaus Ludwig could not hide his delight after securing a second and third place finish in the Norisring DTM double header on Sunday - but admitted that Mercedes still have some work to do to catch up with Opel.

Although Ludwig's Mercedes team mate Bernd Schneider leads the championship after victory in the day's second event, the veteran believes that it is their rivals who have the advantage.

"We have been using a low-downforce configuration all weekend to try and keep up on the straights," said Ludwig, who came out of retirement to race in the DTM. "I think Opel have a big advantage in the engine department at the moment, so we are choking a little bit I guess. But second and third place here is much more than I expected."

Ludwig has been struggling to find a good set-up on his Mercedes so far this year, but showed well throughout the Norisring weekend as he put in a competitive performance.

"It's been good fun, but I am really looking forward to tracks like Hockenheim and the Nurburgring where I know I am quick. It's going to be a tough fight with Opel and throughout the winter we thought we had it all in our hand, but it seems they have it their way at the moment. I just hope they trip up..."
