Rydell's Silverstone appeal fails
Rickard Rydell's hopes of moving into the BTCC points lead before this weekend's night races at Snetterton were dashed when the MSA, the sport's governing body in the UK, rejected Ford's appeal against the Swede's exclusion from second place in round 12 at Silverstone
"We accept the decision," said a Ford spokesman. "It's obviously disappointing for Rickard, but he's still in a strong position in the championship."
Rydell was thrown out of the Silverstone results because of a rear-wing anomaly. Ford said that was down to damage incurred in round 11 earlier in the day, when Rydell's Mondeo was hit by Gabriele Tarquini's Honda and Anthony Reid's Ford.
The appeal hearing decided that damage carried over from a previous race could not be used as a valid excuse, putting to rest fears that allowing such an explanation would create a dangerous precedent.
Rydell is now confirmed in third place in the points, 10 behind second-placed Reid and 11 behind the leader Alain Menu. All three drive for Ford.
