Nunn confirms Zanardi test and race chance
Champ Car team boss Mo Nunn confirmed that Alex Zanardi will test one of his Reynard-Mercedes cars at the Sebring road course in Florida next weekend, and may drive in the Toronto street race on July 16 if he performs well.
Double CART champion Zanardi has not driven a racing car in more than six months, since being dropped by the Williams F1 team at the end of last year, but has been working out energetically and is ready to try his hand once more at the wheel of a Champ Car.
"We're going to give him two days at Sebring," Nunn said, "and if he performs well we'll run him in Toronto. Tony [Kanaan, who is currently injured] hopes to be back in the car for Michigan, so it would just be for Toronto, but if the rest of the year goes well and we don't run into too many problems, we might run a second car for Alex at Vancouver and Laguna Seca."
Zanardi has already professed that he does not wish to run any of the championship's superspeedway races, hence Nunn's decision to miss out the Michigan and Fontana races from any limited programme of events for the Italian.
