Alex Lynn leaves Fortec for Prema as he makes Euro F3 switch

Alex Lynn will race in European Formula 3 next year after joining Prema Powerteam

The 19-year-old Briton finished fourth in British F3 this year in his rookie season in the category with Fortec Motorsports.

He also made a number of F3 Euro Series/European F3 Championship appearances, culminating in a podium at the Hockenheim finale.

Following a test with Prema at Vallelunga last month, Lynn has opted to leave Fortec for the first time in his single-seater career.

"We wanted to do Europe, and it's really hard to ignore what Prema have done in that. When I did the test with them I was really impressed," Lynn said.

"It's hard for me to imagine life without Fortec. I'm 19 now and I've been with them since I started testing Formula BMWs when I was 15. But I needed to take a decision like this to move me out of my comfort zone.

"It's going to make things harder with a foreign team and I will need to raise my game to perform, but I have to push myself now if I want to go very far in motor racing."

Prema has won the last two Euro Series teams' titles and took the drivers' championships in 2011 and '12 thanks to Roberto Merhi and Daniel Juncadella.

Team manager Rene Rosin said: "Ever since Alex tested for us at Vallelunga we've wanted to do this deal and it was actually very easy to reach an agreement with him and his management.

"He's clearly very fast and getting him signed this early means we can make the best possible use of our testing possibilities this winter."

AUTOSPORT understands that Sven Muller and Ferrari Academy driver Raffaele Marciello will both remain with Prema for a further season.
