Rockingham set for September date
Champ Cars will race on Britain's brand new Rockingham Motor Speedway in September 2001, according to CART's latest provisional calendar
The Rockingham race, on September 16, will form the first part of a European swing, with Germany's new Lausitzring circuit hosting a race the following weekend. Although Rockingham refused to comment on the provision of a date, it is believed that the final, 22-race calendar will be announced towards the end of July.
Currently, CART's agreement with its franchise-holding teams is for a maximum of 20 races, however new CART boss Bobby Rahal has hinted that the teams may agree to up that limit to as many as 24 races. Also new on the 2001 calendar is a season-opening race in Monterrey, Mexico.
