Harald Schlegelmilch will make his Formula 2 debut at the Monza season finale next weekend.
The 24-year-old Latvian has not raced since competing in the German Porsche Carrera Cup in 2010, but had reached Formula Renault 3.5 and GP2 Asia during his single-seater career.
"It's great to be back out racing again and I can't wait to race at Monza, a track I love and know well," he said.
"I haven't competed properly in single-seaters since 2009 but hopefully the F2 test beforehand will help me to get up to speed quickly.
"I've not set myself any goals for the weekend, I'm just going to try and do the best job I can."
Schlegelmilch's greatest achievement to date is winning a reversed-grid Formula 3 Euro Series race at the Nurburgring in 2007, when he kept future Formula 1 drivers Romain Grosjean, Sebastien Buemi and Nico Hulkenberg behind him for the duration.
He was also a race-winner in the defunct Formula Master championship the following season.
