Christopher Zanella tops Hungaroring Formula 2 test

Christopher Zanella F2 Hungaroring test 2012

Christopher Zanella was fastest in Formula 2's pre-event test at the Hungaroring on Thursday, the Swiss driver ending the day 0.4 seconds clear of the rest of the field.

Last year's championship runner-up set his pace-setting 1m35.044s time during a series of blistering laps at the very end of the day, setting himself up as favourite for the race weekend.

Alex Fontana was his nearest challenger while Romanian driver Mihai Marinescu, Kevin Mirocha and Markus Pommer completed the top five.

Slovakian driver Richard Gonda finished an impressive sixth overall on his first time in an F2 car, and was second quickest in the final session of the day. He will make his F2 race debut this weekend.

After his win at Paul Ricard last time out, Matheo Tuscher could only manage seventh, ahead of Dino Zamparelli and championship leader Luciano Bacheta with Daniel McKenzie completing the top 10.
