Casey Stoner has returned home after having surgery on his injured ankle on Thursday.
The factory Honda MotoGP squad described the operation on the torn ligaments the reigning world champion sustained in a crash at Indianapolis as "successful".
A statement from Honda Racing Corporation said: "Today in Australia, Repsol Honda's Casey Stoner received surgery to his ankle.
"Doctors are pleased with how the operation went, and now must wait during this initial recuperation period to see how the ankle is healing."
Stoner raced with the injury at Indianapolis and finished fourth, but after assessing himself further for the following race at Brno he decided against continuing to ride.
The 26-year-old, who will retire from MotoGP at the end of the season, admitted when he withdrew from the Czech Grand Prix that the injury had "finished" his chances of retaining his crown.
