The International Superstars Series will add another manufacturer to the grid at the next round, with young Italian Michele Faccin poised to make his debut aboard an MRT Lexus ISF.
The 22-year-old tested the ISF at the Franciacorta track test in Brescia, Northern Italy, on Tuesday, and is likely to race the car at next month's seventh round.
The Lexus has not raced in Superstars since the opening round of the 2012 season at Monza, when Simone Monforte failed to finish either race in the MRT ISF.
According to team owner Mauro Nocentini, putting Faccin in the car is the first step towards a two-car programme in 2013.
"I think I can be quite satisfied at the moment," said Nocentini.
"Despite [the fact] we hit some assembly troubles, the car, thoroughly modified in the last few months, responded well. Our Lexus have always been fast, but last year we were constantly facing electronic issues that should be no longer there thanks to the team's hard work.
"This test showed that we are working in the right direction, and next week we'll hit the track at Vallelunga to push even harder. I strongly believe in the success of Superstars and I look forward to field two ISF racecars in 2013."
Faccin, a former Formula Renault and Formula 3 driver, is looking forward to spending more time in the Superstars Series.
"I'm really proud to have become part of the Superstars world," said Faccin.
"This shakedown enabled me to understand the car better. It's really fast and the torque is also outstanding. For me, Superstars will represent a great occasion and a step forward in my professional career."
