Nicky Hayden will miss Indianapolis MotoGP race after qualifying crash

Nicky Hayden crashes at IndianapolisNicky Hayden has been ruled out of Sunday's Indianapolis MotoGP race due to his violent crash in qualifying.

The American was briefly knocked out when he became the third man in succession to fly into a high-side on the exit of Turn 13, following earlier crashes for Casey Stoner and Ben Spies.

Hayden was taken to hospital for checks and a CAT scan. No serious head injuries were found, although he did sustain two small fractures to his right hand. He was not given clearance to race.

Prior to the crash, Hayden had gone quick enough to claim eighth on the grid, three places ahead of his Ducati team-mate Valentino Rossi. He is expected to be discharged from hospital on either Saturday night or Sunday morning.
