Dave Newsham disqualified from fourth in first Snetterton British Touring Car race

Dave NewshamBritish Touring Car driver Dave Newsham has been excluded from the first race at Snetterton for being underweight.

Newsham fought in the top four throughout the race and took fourth on the road after a gruelling and panel-damaging fight with Andrew Jordan on the final lap. But at post-race scrutineering the ES Racing Vauxhall Vectra was found to be underweight.

Team boss Chris James said: "They say we were 3.4kg underweight. We accept it, but we're unhappy.

"We'll put a bit more fuel and weight in for race two - there's no way he'll be underweight again."

Newsham's exclusion promotes championship leader Matt Neal up to fourth and means Mat Jackson took eighth on the debut of Motorbase's NGTC Ford Focus.

It also means Newsham will have to start at the back for the second race.
