Villeneuve: 'It’s too early to decide on future'
Jacques Villeneuve continued to dodge questions about his future as he prepared for his home race in Montreal on Sunday
Speculation is growing he is set to quit BAR for Benetton while the Italian media this week named him as the man to take control of Ferrari after Michael Schumacher retires.
On both counts Villeneuve would not be drawn.
"It's fun to read a lot of things but it doesn't help work within the team because everyone is a little bit stressed out.
"We are still concentrating on getting this car to go quick and getting some results. That is what is important right now but there will come a point where will have to make a decision on what I want to do."
"The speculation does not affect me at the circuit because I am working on the car but when you get home things start going through your mind.
"As far as I know Schumacher is not leaving Ferrari so its not relevant."
Villeneuve reportedly had talks with Benetton representatives in Monaco after the Grand Prix 11 days ago.
"You cannot make a decision before you know all the cards in your hands," he said.
"I need to know what I am choosing from and what is happening with the teams and where they are heading."
Villeneuve is a long way down the road in his contract discussions to remain at BAR but is rumoured to be seriously considering a Benetton offer while waiting to hear whether David Coulthard's seat at McLaren will come up for grabs.
Villeneuve would not even be drawn on whether he would 'entertain' the idea of changing teams.
"I would certainly entertain trying to make the best decision for the future," he replied..
