Barrichello pays tribute to Hoffmann

Rubens Barrichello in a Hoffmann tribute helmet at InterlagosHonda's Rubens Barrichello is running an alternative helmet livery during this weekend's Brazilian Grand Prix in tribute to Ingo Hoffmann, who started three grands prix for the Copersucar Fittipaldi team in 1976-7.

Hoffmann, who went on to become a Brazilian motorsport legend after dropping out of international racing by winning the country's high-profile Stock Car Championship a record 12 times between 1980 and 2002, was an influential figure in Barrichello's early career.

At the age of seven, Barrichello was given his first racing helmet by Hoffmann and the Brazilian has chosen to honour his old mentor, who will start his final Stock Car race at Interlagos next month before quitting professional racing, by sporting his distinctive yellow-and-orange livery this weekend.

Hoffmann, who is now 55, is also attending the Brazilian Grand Prix as a guest of Honda.
