Hamilton honoured by Grenada

Lewis Hamilton has been honoured in Grenada's Independence celebrations this week, being handed an Ambassador award for his efforts in Formula One last year.

The McLaren driver, whose paternal grandparents come from Grenada, was present at the celebrations this week to celebrate the country's 34th year of independence.

Being notified of the award by Governor General Sir Daniel Williams and Prime Minister Dr. Keith Mitchell, Hamilton told a news conference that he was overwhelmed by the support the country had shown him on his visit.

Earlier, Mitchell had made it clear that Grenada had taken Hamilton to their hearts.

"Grenadians are very proud of you. Everywhere people are excited about your visit," Mitchell told Hamilton during a ceremony at the international airport.
